Hack the Border project workshop in Latvia

Date created 06.03.2026

On 5 March, a Hack the Border project workshop was held, hosted by Valka Jānis Cimze Gymnasium.
The day started at the Valka Local History Museum, where the Estonian participants explored the history of Valka and learned about Jānis Cimze, his life story, and his contribution to Latvian and Estonian culture.
After the museum visit, the Latvian hosts introduced Jānis Cimze Gymnasium, followed by brainstorming and PITCH sessions to further develop the participants’ project ideas.
After a delicious lunch, participants discovered how dreams and entrepreneurship have helped create some of Valka’s largest employers: Pepi Rer and IGLU Soft Play.
The group had the opportunity to learn about real-life processes and to ask questions about marketing and product development directly from the companies.
Sincere thanks to the Jānis Cimze Gymnasium team for an inspiring and well-organised day.
The next project events will take place on 25–26 March, when Euronews will visit to film a story about life and activities in the two border towns.
